  • This is the first time I've purchased Kirkland Signature Ultra laundry detergent in refreshing scent formula. Previously I had always used the large industrial bucket powdered laundry detergent. It is effective and cheap but it isn't appropriate now that my washer is a high efficiency front loader. I went looking for an inexpensive option that was formulated for my washing machine and I found the Kirkland signature product at Costco. I checked the label and it claimed to be safe for HE machines so I bought it. Like nearly every Kirkland Signature product I've ever tried it is less expensive then the comparable national brand. I have had good experiences with most Kirkland products so I am always willing to give them a try. So far the Kirkland Signature laundry detergent is getting my clothes as clean as my previous product. They come out smelling fresh and lightly scented. The scent evaporates once the clothes are dry and they just smell clean. I'm pleased with how well the detergent rinses out of the clothes. I was previously running an extra rinse for every load because the non HE detergent was leaving behind a lot of residue. If you have an HE machine and you're unhappy with the high price of the national brands then you should give this product a try.

Kirkland Laundry Detergent is much like most Kirkland products, its cheap, basic and works. I use this detergent for kids clothes, towels, and work clothes. It doesn't really get out stains or anything, you'd have to use a stain stick or spray, but clothes come out clean. The only part I don't like about this detergent is if you use the measuring cup and put it back on the top, it will drip all over the place. I rinse out the cup, put it back on the lid, and I get a sticky residue all over the side of the bottle and bottom of the shelf. I know a name brand does not have this problem because the lid has a slight indentation that lets excess detergent go back in the bottle. Aside from this problem, it does a decent job doing laundry.

    Performance
This detergent will clean your clothes but don't expect stains or very soiled areas to look amazingly clean. For really dirty things I add Oxi-clean or penetrate the stain with another product beforehand.

    Scent
The scent is fairly light and will wash out. I smell it when putting wet clothes into the dryer, but then the smell is dissipated enough.

  • I've been using Kirkland Signature Laundry Detergent for a very long time now. I used to use another brand for many years but was skeptical to using this brand as I have lots of allergies (hives to detergent and the detergents scents/perfumes) and it took me a long time to find the one I used. However I kept hearing about Kirkland Signature and I have to admit, price was a factor, and decided to try it. Was I a happy camper afterward. This product really did a wonderful cleaning job on my clothes without added heavy perfumes. And no hives from the cleaning product itself. Double yeah. All joking aside, it really did a terrific job.

    Performance
My clothes were really clean after using this product. You could really tell the difference with my white socks. Very dirty to nicely clean.

    Scent
As I have mentioned above, I have allergies where product scents are concerned. I can do with a slight scent or no scent, but rarely a heavy scent/perfume fragrance. Luckily for me this product's scent falls into the can live with department. Plus it's a very nice scent in it's own right.

    Kirkland Scented Laundry Detergent
    by: Tim Arnold

OK. I'm not a stranger to scented detergents. I used Tide for decades and the scent was a mild clean fragrance. Kirkland Scented Laundry Detergent is a full out assault on the human olfactory system. It smells as though I tossed about 1000 fabric softener sheets in the dryer. The smell (which is more odiferous than a French Bordello) could knock a crap-drunk buzzard off a manure wagon at high noon. Am I being fairly clear on how strong and pungent the "scent" is on this stuff? I don't appreciate all of my clothes smelling like I took a bath in women's perfume...god save the queen!

I will NEVER EVER EVER buy this stuff again, and I hope to god I can get a rebate on the unused gallon and a half.

  • this caused me to have an allergic reaction
    by: Veganmom

I am covered in hives and rash from Kirkland brand laundry detergent, namely Kirkland Environmentally Responsible Ultra Clean premium laundry detergent. I am taking back to store.

I have had to see a dermatologist for rash and $80.00 in prescription drugs to get rid of rash and itching.

I have been using kirklands laundry detergent for about 2 years. I tell everyone about the high quality of the product. But now, I am trying to determine why my dishtowels are no longer absorbent. I do not use any form of softener therefore should not have any oils, etc. So are my old towels the problem, or the are the oils in the detergent causing the in absorbency. Any ideas??
